SMI SUMMER NOTE | JULY 2019

Our new design studio in Palm Springs! Art by Lynda Keeler.

With the summer solstice, one of my most favorite days of the year, just a blink of an eye behind us, I find myself taking a deep breath, inhaling warmth and sunshine, and reflecting upon the last several months while simultaneously looking ahead to second half of 2019. It’s that holy guacamole moment when you realize half the year is over, time is flying, and boy, I wish I had a margarita with fresh lime juice and organic agave nectar to go along with that guac!

This past spring, we sprung, we grew, we blossomed. Welcome, Nikoya Moses, Interior Designer, to SMI! Nikoya is talented, communicative, positive, and tech savvy. She graduated from The Art Institute of San Diego’s Interior Design Program in 2016. Nikoya adds so much depth, thoughtful design practices, and joy to our design firm which gets sprinkled on to all of our project, client, and vendor interactions. If you haven’t met Nikoya yet, please give her a warm welcome.

I’m excited to share this feature on my Palm Springs condo in the Monogram Appliances Blog. Selected as one of 12 influential American Interior Designers, I was honored and put to the task of serving on the Monogram Designer Advisory Council. Spending 3 days in Louisville Kentucky with some pretty amazing OG designers sparked ideas and meaty conversation around kitchen and appliance design. Not gonna lie, we laughed a lot and new designer friendships were forged. Here is a link to the article.

Some of my favorite design related field trips this past spring include Tabarka Tile LA, Kelly Wearstler LA, Lindsey Adelman, LA, Modern Rugs LA, Martyn Lawrence Bullard LA, PS212 Palm Springs, the PDC, Lusso Design Resources Chicago, Materials Marketing, Chicago…..I’ve been making time between Palm Springs, LA, and Chicago to soak up not only a little sunshine but also some pretty awesome, daring, stunning, livable art and design. My head and heart explode with the gorgeousness I experience through these visits and meetings with showroom managers.

This summer I will be traveling back and forth between Palm Springs and Chicago working on some wonderful projects with the best clients all at different phases and stages. On September 18, my cousin Steven Rudin, insanely gifted wickedly smart and entertaining collage artist/psychiatrist, and I will be co-presenting at Jonathan Adler to benefit Designs for Dignity. We will also be co-hosting an art opening at the Jonathan Adler showroom on Thursday, September 19. Save the date! Stay tuned for more details.

Also proud to share…..Staci Munic Interiors celebrated its 6th Birthday this past May and I earned my ASID membership this past month! Many of you know, Interior Design is not my first career, in fact, it is my third, preceded by a long run in the Hospitality Industry and Education. ASID status opens even more opportunities for growth, learning, and resources that I get to share with my clients.

I experience a little social media posting paralysis, and always worry if my posts are worthy. I photograph hundreds of images each week of my work, and of other inspiration, but I find myself stuck sometimes….with my head down working for my clients, not feeling like I have the time to post great enough content. I have gone to workshops, and industry talks on the importance of posting and creating an online persona and strong brand. I am working on it, but first and foremost, I work for my clients and work with my vendors and trades. I still like connecting and communicating the old fashioned way….on the phone, or over a coffee or a good glass of wine. Email and text work, too, as does FB, Insta, PM, and messenger…. please be patient with me, as I am not a digital native, but rather a digital immigrant. I hope you find my work and designs relevant, warm, beautiful, and interesting as I strive to improve my clients’ lives through mindful, approachable, design.
